Over time your weapons, armor and tools will all suffer damage, however you don't have to build new equipment each time. Once you've built a workbench you can use it to repair your weapons.
To repair your equipment use the workbench, default key 'E' and you'll see a menu on the right showing all items that you can craft. To the left of that you will notice a Spanner icon that will be flashing with a yellow outline if you have equipment that need repairing. Click the spanner and your equipment will be repaired in the order that it most needs it.
Equipment with the higher damaged will be repaired first.
